A summary of things you should know about Instant Motivation according to Chantal Burns:

Introduction

In this episode Chantal Burns takes a deep dive into her book, Instant Motivation, where she reveals the surprising truth behind what really drives top performance.

In her book Burns shares the inspirational stories and game-changing research that will change how you think when it comes developing a motivational mindset. The goal of the book is to teach you experimental ways that are guaranteed to improve your personal will power, live a happier life, and develop a strong mindset that will improve your performance significantly.

This book is perfect for aspiring entrepreneurs or seasoned entrepreneurs who are having a hard time getting motivated and a need a practical way to immediately improve their performance.

The Book’s Unique Quality (4:45)

What’s different about my book is that I am not offering any strategies, advice or techniques and that alone distinguishes it a lot.

The Best Way To Engage (6:00)

The book is structured in to two parts and part one lays out the foundation that I am wanted to point people to and it’s important that you read this part in the order that I have it. And part two is really bringing to life the foundation that I’m sharing in part one.

The Reader’s Takeaway (22:39)

Probably that state of mind is everything and understanding how state of mind really works is the key to a high performance life.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (7:11)

Part one of the book is designed to set out a fundamental understanding about how human experience works. What I am saying is that there is a fundamental misunderstanding at play that is really crucial in terms of performance that 90% of people are overlooking. I share some informative insights that shed light and points to just how misunderstood performance is. This is my attempt to see the proof of this misunderstand, to be able to relate to it directly, and be able to see where in your life this makes sense to you. I talk a lot about state of mind and the role it is playing.

In part two of the book I talk about bringing to life the foundation and understanding that I am sharing in part one. I give lots of client’s stories and research throughout the book where I try to bring to light something very powerful about the nature of thought. I have chapters that are focused on the notion of identity and who we are verses who we really are. I help the reader to see who you are before your thinking about who you are and the implications for you as a leader.

The book is about why state of mind is everything and how we are missing one simple truth about how it works and how seeing through that can change everything.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 07:11

Notable Quotes From The Book (23:12)

“We have a thought and we put it outside of ourselves we project our thoughts on to a situation, a person, a past or future event, and then we forget that it’s thought and it becomes part of the fixed reality out there outside of us separate to us.” – Chantal Burns

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:36)

I have been working in the area of high performance and culture change/organizational change for the last 15 or so years. Before that I worked in a corporate environment for 15 years in a commercial role in sales marketing. And then in 1999 I set up my own consultancy and have been working with businesses, leaders, and organizations helping them to improve performance at work.

Having worked with organizations and leaders for quite a number of years I have always been very curious about what creates the high performance culture. I have always been interested in what kept people from improving so I dived in and did my research and wanted to share it with others.

When you start on your entrepreneurial journey, you are sure to hear one important piece of advice – you need to maintain a work-life balance. But what exactly does it mean? Does it imply that you divide your day into two equal parts – one dedicated to work and the other to life? Not really!

Work-life balance implies that you put equal emphasis on the two. But it’s easier said than done. It can be difficult to think of your life separately when you have to juggle numerous roles and handle numerous responsibilities. So, what do you do?

Here are a few tips that can help you become an effective entrepreneur:

Tip 1: Remember why you decided to be an entrepreneur.

If you started because you loved what you did and wanted to do what you loved, work will never feel as a burden. And while it can take up most part of your day, especially when you are just starting out, it will not make you feel as if you have wasted it.

Tip 2: Schedule your day.

Not just the work portion, but every part of it. And try to stick to your routine. There will be times when you have to reschedule a meeting or attend your child’s ballet recital. But otherwise, you need to plan out how you will spend the day. This way you can avoid the fear that something you wanted done won’t be on done on time.

Tip 3: Don’t set yourself up for failure.

Setting a big goal for the year isn’t a good idea. Instead, focus on smaller goals that you need to achieve within a week, or may be a month. It will make you feel good when you achieve these smaller goals. And it will also help you attain the bigger goal you want to achieve in the long run.

Tip 4: Don’t neglect your health.

While you may love to handle every little detail for your business, if this means that you skip your breakfast, miss your exercise or don’t get enough sleep, it isn’t really the best thing for you. Eat healthy, exercise regularly, and get enough rest; and you’ll see what a difference this little things make in your life.

Tip 5: Set aside some ‘me’ time.

Taking care of your physical health isn’t the only thing you need to do. You need to refresh and re-energize your mental and spiritual self too. Go on a date, indulge in a spa break, plan a vacation, or do whatever you feel like. And switch off your Smartphone and leave your laptop behind on these occasions.

Tip 6: Remember your family and friends support.

Be grateful every day for how everyone in your circle of life helps and supports you. It may be your spouse helping with housework or a business associate chalking out a financial plan. Say thank you whenever you feel; expressing your gratitude always makes you feel better.

Being an entrepreneur doesn’t necessarily mean losing sleep or finding no time for it altogether. If you love what you do, you can build your business into your lifestyle. And this way, you will be able to achieve the right balance between work and life.

Also, don’t stress about balancing your work and life. It will only mess up things even more. Instead, focus on what you need to do to stay healthy and happy. And when you love your work as an entrepreneur and be part of your circle, you will find that the work and life portions works out on their own.

A summary of things you should know about Grow A Pair according to Larry Winget:

Introduction

In this episode personal growth expert, Larry Winget, shares his book Grow A Pair where he teaches you how to stop being a victim and take back your life, business, and sanity.

In his book Winget shares a commonsense approach to becoming successful which crucial advice on achieving your goals, finding your career path, and managing your personal finances. The goal of the book is to help you become more assertive, take more responsibility, stop making excuses, and start getting more results.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who struggle with obtaining actionable results due to a lack of self-confidence, a feeling of laziness, and a fear of failure.

The Book’s Unique Quality (4:01)

There is no other book in the market like this one. There is no other book that talks in this way about telling people to really grow a pair. Growing a pair is about developing an attitude of control and power.

The Best Way To Engage (4:51)

I don’t write anything that is designed to be read from front to back. You can jump all around my books.

The Reader’s Takeaway (15:18)

Know what you believe in, that you absolutely will never compromise. One of my core values is honesty, it doesn’t have to be pretty it just has to be the truth.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (5:28)

I start the book off by giving my basic premise that we have become a nation of weenies, wimps, and victims. I put people through a test just by asking a series of questions. Do you allow people to take advantage of you? Most people these days allow themselves to be walked on and walked over. We all have areas of our life that we let others take advantage of us. So what I like for people to do is realize that while they think their tough, their probably not so tough especially in areas when it concerns their family. The other thing I like for people to realize is what do you really stand for, what do you believe in and what are your core values? I like people to know what they believe and then stand up for what they believe in. Remember this, if you tolerate it and put up with it, you’re endorsing it. Do you endorse people being rude to you? Well then why do you put up with it? So I start with doing an assessment of who you are, what you believe in and whether people do take advantage of you or not.

After that assessment is done I talk about some of the problems in society like political correctness. I think that’s the most castrating thing we got going on in our society right now is that we are afraid to speak up and say the truth. We have got to start speaking the truth whether people get their feelings hurt or not. The truth doesn’t care whether you like it. The truth is still the truth. We’ve got people who speak in very weak languages these days because they are afraid they might offend somebody. What I try to let everybody know is if you have a position at all on anything, someone is going to be offended by it. So stand for something and be brave enough to take it because standing up for what you believe in is one of the most important things in terms of your own personal integrity that you can ever do.

This book is about assessing where you are in your life and then telling you some of the things that you can do. We can’t change the world but we can change our world and this book is about teaching people how to change their world. When people don’t have any money it’s because their finances are out of control and you can get in control by having a written down budget. We need to know what we believe in and stand up for it.

Notable Quotes From The Book (16:33)

“You can’t have a bully without a victim.” – Larry Winget

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:51)

I am known as the pit bull of personal development, that’s one of my registered trademarks. I don’t much believe in motivational speaking. I believe you can get much better results by irritating and that’s what I do. I have done my own television series on A&E. I’m a regular on several business television and national news shows. I have written six New York Times and Wall Street best sellers and I’ve spoken to over 400 of the Fortune 500 companies.

I’ve written all my books based on what I see going on in society and what I’ve realized is that we’ve become this nation of victims. We’ve become entitled, blame everyone else for why our life sucks, and what we need to do is grow a pair, take responsibility, and move on from there.
