A summary of things to know about Wade Danielson and The Entrepreneurs Library:

Introduction

In this special episode of The Entrepreneurs Library serial entrepreneur and CEO of VoterSnap, Patrick Stevens, guest interviews Wade Danielson on his entrepreneurial journey and this show.

Since the launch of The Entrepreneurs Library, Wade has been asked so many questions that relates to his entrepreneurial life and the driving force behind his idea for this unique resource. The goal of this episode is to give you a more personal look into the life of Wade, the failures and successes along his journey, what led him to creating a book centric resource for entrepreneurs, and how his first company got listed #786 on Inc’s Fortune 5000.

AFTER YOU LISTEN/READ: Whether you are a subscriber to the show or a brand new listener it would be very humbling if you left your feedback about this show by commenting on this post.

A Summary of The Interview

Will you give those that don’t know you a bird’s eye view of yourself? (6:30)

WADE: I was born and raised in Nebraska, moved around the Midwest a ton due to my father working for the railroad. I ended up back in Nebraska for college and then met my future wife and decided to move back down to Texas where I currently reside. As of recently we now have two boys, two years and eleven months old.

A little background on where it all started was as a college kid I got in front of an awesome group of people, an education system that taught me the importance of reading which completely changed my life. I had big goals and dreams and it was the education I was looking for. That led me to starting my own company, Guardian Network Solutions, at the age of 25 which I still run today and about to have our five year anniversary. We found a niche for something that was missing in the network security industry and decided to fill it. Every day we focus on helping small business owners keep their network secure. Over the years we grew organically and started to add people little by little to join our team and help us reach our goals as a small business. Our fourth year in business we hit a little over four million in revenue and have huge plans for the next couple of years and in 2016 we are looking to be a 10 million dollar company.

If Mark Cuban or Donald Trump were to introduce you, what would they say? (11:50)

WADE: I would hope that they would talk about me being someone who is more of a time crusader, someone who is always looking to maximize the most out of life. I’m a big believer in focusing on putting more years onto your life and then putting more life into those years that you have. I am someone who knows that he’s never going to be perfect but is always in the pursuit of perfection.

What was one of the first main defining moments in your life and reasons that made you make a decision to become an entrepreneur? (13:45)

WADE: One of the big things for me was getting married. I realized I was ok as a single guy being fairly broke and living at a friend’s house on a half inflated air mattress. But when I really got serious about proposing to my wife, the thought of bringing someone else on, I knew I was never going to bring someone else to live like that. So getting married was a huge part of it and it was the first time that made me think at a level that I’d never thought before. Another thing that motivated me was one Christmas I had asked my boss for an unexpected day off in order to drive up to Nebraska to spend time with my family before a big storm hit. I knew that if I didn’t leave the day before expected I would never make it there. So I called my bosses and could easily tell that they both weren’t supportive of it at all. It was then that I realized I was not in control and I knew that entrepreneurs have more control of not only time but more money. Those were two extremely big moment in deciding to become an entrepreneur.

What was your mindset in taking the leap from working for a company fulltime to actually starting a company where you have all the responsibilities to think about? (18:30)

WADE: I am glad this question was asked because mindset is such a massive part of winning and losing in the entrepreneurial game. Your kids are an excuse not to start a business or your kids are the reason to start a business and that’s the way I thought about it. Even though I didn’t have kids at the time but I worked really, really hard for that future child. The thought process was it was a bigger risk for me to actually keep working a job than it was for me to be an entrepreneur who bought back his freedom because that time as an entrepreneur allows me to focus on my marriage rather than working 11 hours a day.

You’re coming up on your five year anniversary at GNS and knowing that around 90% of businesses don’t even make it to the five year mark, let alone be as successful as it is. So what from your perspective are the reasons why Guardian Network Solutions has been so successful and made it this far? (24:50)

WADE: My personal belief is that most people fail in business because they are so specialized in what they do but they don’t know the business side.

Being a podcaster and in this specific niche within personal development, what’s the primary content that you’re seeing most successful entrepreneurs are consuming right now? And how do you see that changing over the next five years? (27:42)

WADE: From what I’ve seen I think the predominant sources are still books, blogs, magazines, and audio books. I think you will eventually see a large shift to audio-on-demand.

When did you realize self-education was the way to real and lasting success for you? (31:30)

WADE: I think the first time I realized it was in college, 21 years old, and going to classes that weren’t very specific. I was learning business law and more interested in business and marketing. I was the person in college who said that I will never read again and believed that reading was so unbelievably boring. This was until I finally read a book that I was actually interested in which was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It was from that point forward that I became addicted to personal growth and that came through reading.

How did you come across podcasting? (37:00)

WADE: After reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss, I began to do some research on him and ran across the podcast called Entrepreneur On Fire. It’s a seven day a week podcast that focuses on business owners and entrepreneurs. I fell in love with it real quick and started branching out and looking for other podcasts from there.

What sparked the idea of The Entrepreneurs Library? (38:06)

WADE: I was looking for a way to diversify from some of the other companies we own. I was always looking for my next great book but finding those is not always easy. I was using Amazon, Google, and trying to find a good, quick, clear, and credible way. I realized there was no podcast that helped people find their next great read and it was then that I knew I had to do something about it.

What separates other book review sites from The EL podcast? (43:00)

WADE: I think some of the biggest things are credibility, deeper dive, short and straight to the point.

What’s the “Why” behind The Entrepreneurs Library? (45:23)

WADE: The primary reason is to help entrepreneurs find that next great book that will change their lives. I want to help people find that next nugget that’s going to help them move forward. I also want to help the authors sell their book and I believe this is a great place for that.

What’s next for The Entrepreneurs Library? (48:30)

WADE: There are a couple things but the biggest is video. We are always looking at how to best serve the market and everyone likes different things. I have never been a massive blog reader but some of our audience is. What we are trying to do is really be able to capitalize on the different markets of helping entrepreneurs find great content. One of those things is we are launching a video podcast and more than anything it’s there to cover rapid reviews.

If you could write the perfect book for entrepreneurs, what would you title it? (51:00)

WADE: The End Game.

What is the one thing that you’ve implemented personally in your life that was an absolute game changer that you believe would add a lot of value to others? (51:36)

WADE: I call it Time Lining. I do this with my goals and use up a very long marker white board and draw out the next two years of my life. On that board I layout my goals, trips, action items, business idea, etc. From there my timeline gets even more specific as I break it down into months, weeks, and days.

Do you have a morning routine? (56:15)

WADE: After interviewing Hal Elrod on his book The Miracle Morning, I started waking up earlier, drinking plenty of water, and stretching. Then I wanted to take it a step further so now I wake up at 5am and the first hour is for me and the second hour is for my wife.

What is one habit you wish you had? (1:00:07)

WADE: Something I need to change and will change is that I need to eat slower.

If you could go back and redo anything in your entrepreneurial life, what would you change? (1:02:20)

WADE: The first thing would be the way we hired. We were really good at implementing systems and processes into the sales process but we didn’t include systems and processes into interviewing, hire, and firing.

What is the best advice you’ve ever taken from a book? (1:03:25)

WADE: I think the best advice from a book or point blank would be appreciation. Those that appreciate seem to live an unbelievably more fruitful life than those that don’t. And to go along with it, it would be time. Time is worth more than money.

If you were stranded on an island with only one book what would it be? (1:04:50)

WADE: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Hal Elrod, known as “Yo Pal Hal,” started hosting his own radio show at age 15. When he was 20 he was hit by a drunk driver. He was clinically dead for 6 minutes and in a coma for 6 days. Doctors told him he may never walk again. Today, Hal is an ultra-marathon runner.

Hal is the author of 2 of the most acclaimed books on Amazon, regularly appears on television shows all over the country, and is one of the most popular life coaches today. Here are 5 lessons that all entrepreneurs can learn from Hal Elrod:

1. Responsibility is not to Blame Others

The first thing you need to do to start reaching your goals is to accept responsibility for all areas of your life. It is impossible for you to determine the course of your life when you are placing responsibility on someone else. When someone else is to blame for the current situation we find ourselves in, we often become passive. But when you accept the responsibility of getting yourself out of that situation, you reclaim power over your own life.

Many people hesitate to claim responsibility because they assume that they have to accept the blame for that situation as well. But responsibility and blame are two different things. Blame identifies who is at fault. But the fact is, it doesn’t mean why you find yourself in any given situation. What matters is that you commit to finding a way out of it. And that is responsibility.

2. Be Proactive not Reactive

It is only natural for people to be very emotional about a new business that they are starting. This venture makes up a large part of your life and it only makes sense that you would feel very strongly about it. But when we allow our emotions to dictate what we do, we become reactive. This always puts us one step behind. Instead, we need to be guided by our minds, which makes us proactive.

“The number one cause of unfulfilled potential is never deciding that now matters more than any other time in your life.” – Hal Elrod

When we make emotional decisions, we choose things based on what will make us feel good right now. No business will ever succeed if it is built on such short-sighted goals. We need to take the long term view of everything. It may require sacrificing short term pleasure for long term happiness and success. Before making any decision, take a step back to review the consequences of each choice objectively.

3. Reach Out and Help Out

One thing that is true of all great leaders is that they help other people reach their personal and professional goals. When you focus on how you can help others, you will find yourself receiving countless offers of help in return. The more people we help, the more influence we will accumulate. This directly translates into more success.

If you help people get what they want, you will be much more likely to get what you want. Far too many entrepreneurs treat competitors like the enemy. The fact is, the market is almost definitely big enough to accumulate your company and theirs. Partnerships and friendly cooperation are the building blocks of success.

4. Learn from Your Mistakes

Everybody has bad days. It’s just a fact of life. You will encounter obstacles and setbacks in reaching your goals, some of them of your own making. Unsuccessful people use these bad days as an excuse for future failures. Because yesterday was bad, they are running behind today and that negatively affects tomorrow. With this mindset, they create a whole series of bad days out of one mistake.

Successful people, on the other hand, learn from their mistakes. They own up to their bad choices and use them to grow as a person. They refuse to let one bad day turn into two. Instead, they seize the opportunity to analyze what led them to that bad day and study how they can avoid repeating it in the future. The difference between success and failure is not the number of mistakes you make, but rather how you react to those mistakes.

5. Push Through Fear and Embrace Risk

Doing anything for the first time is uncomfortable. It’s often at least a little scary as well. It is perfectly natural to feel fear when you are beginning a large project. That fear does not mean that this is a bad idea or that you are not ready to start something. It just means that you are trying something new and unfamiliar.

Fear paralyzes. The best way to combat fear is with action. Once you actively begin pursuing your goals, the fear will fade away. It is when you stand still and allow the fear to overwhelm you that your goals elude you. You don’t have to deny the fear or pretend that you don’t feel it. But you do have to move ahead through it.

A summary of things you should know about The Miracle Morning according to Hal Elrod:

Introduction

In this episode, Hal Elrod shares his book, The Miracle Morning where he believes how you start the day sets the context for the rest of your day which sets the context for the rest of your life.

In his book, Elrod teaches you his ultimate morning routine that helped double his income within two months. The goal of the book is to provide you with a real life experience of success and the steps on how to wake up each day with more energy, motivation, and focus to take your life to the next level.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who want to change their lives, but have trouble waking up early in the morning and feel as if they are losing energy and motivation throughout the day.

The Book’s Unique Quality (5:43)

The Miracle Morning is the highest rated book many, many times over both in terms of sales and five star reviews. After applying the concepts that I teach you in this book you immediately see extraordinary results.

The Best Way To Engage (7:56)

I suggest the reader read from front to back.

The Reader’s Takeaway

The one concept that I would like the reader to take away is to wake up earlier than you have to because you want to, not because you have to. Because how you start the day sets the context for the rest of your day which sets the context for the rest of your life.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (9:40)

It starts out with the introduction which is my story and why yours is the one that matters. I share the details of my car wreck and the actionable lessons I learned from it.

Chapter one – it’s time to wake up to your full potential – this just reinforces the idea that we are capable of so much more than we could have ever even considered for ourselves. This chapter is designed to really remind you of the unlimited potential that’s in all of us.

Chapter two – The miracle morning origin born out of desperation – this is the in-depth version of the story of how I came up with the miracle morning.

Chapter three – The 95% reality check – it’s essentially the reality check that 95% of our society will never live life on their terms.

Chapter four – Why did you wake up this morning – The purpose behind the miracle morning is the idea that most people wake up not because they want to but because they have to. When we hit the snooze button we are starting our day with procrastination which sets the tone for you to become the person that procrastinates in other areas in life. This also starts your day with a lack of self-discipline.

Chapter five – The five step snooze proof wake up strategy for the snooze-oholics – This is the most important chapter.

Chapter six – The life savers – Six practices guaranteed to save you from a life of unfulfilled potential.
S – Silence (meditation/prayer)
A – Affirmations
V – Visualization
E – Exercise
R – Reading
S – Scribing or Writing

Chapter seven – The six minute miracle morning – One minute for each of the life savers.

Chapter eight – Customizing your miracle morning to fit your lifestyle and achieve your highest goals and dreams – I give you all sorts of options on how to do your miracle morning. I allow you to make it your own so that it fits your lifestyle and achieves your goals and dreams.

Chapter nine – From unbearable to unstoppable – This is the real secret to forming habits that will transform your life in 30 days. I bust the myth that it takes 21 days to form a habit.

Chapter ten – The miracle morning 30 day life transformation challenge and fast start kit – After you learn how to effectively implement a habit, we break it down into a 30 day miracle morning life transformation challenge and I give you a 10 page challenge that allows you to customize it to fit your lifestyle.

Notable Quotes From The Book

“The number one cause of unfulfilled potential of regret and of struggle is never deciding that now matters more than any other time in your life because it does.” – Hal Elrod

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:34)

I was a radio DJ until I got into sales where I was one of the youngest sales rep ever inducted into the companies’ hall of fame. I broke a bunch of sales records and thought that I was going to do that forever. I was in a horrific car accident, died for six minutes, broke 11 bones and told I would never walk again. I bounced back from that and went on to write a couple of bestselling books, became a coach and a motivational speaker.

It was never intended to be a book, it was written out of responsibility to share my experiences with other people. I did research and created what seemed to be the ultimate morning ritual and within two months of doing it I more than doubled my income.

A summary of things you should know about Vision To Reality according to Honoree Corder:

Introduction

In this episode, Honoree Corder takes a deep dive into her book, Vision To Reality where she helps you answer the question what do you really want and why haven’t you already got it.

In her book, Corder points you in the right direction to achieving success by talking about her coaching philosophy and program. She will teach you how to increase efficiency and effectiveness, overcome challenges, increase productivity, and live with passion and purpose.

This book is perfect for the entrepreneur who wants the steps used by successful entrepreneurs to transform their daily actions into the life of their dreams.

The Book’s Unique Quality (2:21)

My book is different because I didn’t add in any additional pages, I went straight for the tip of the spear. It’s less than 150 pages and it’s all very high content and something someone can use as a reference.

The Best Way To Engage (3:12)

I like everyone to read my books all the way through and then take it section by section.

The Reader’s Takeaway (10:37)

That they need to give themselves the clear space to define their vision.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (3:58)

In chapter one I start by asking what do you really want and why haven’t you already got it? I discuss in this chapter why you don’t have what you want and what’s happened to prevent you from getting it. I talk about this fictional character Ted who is in all of us and he’s this unintentional guy who is not really sure about why he hasn’t achieved success. I am not a fiction writer but I like to bring people some kind of recognition of themselves and to also know that they are not alone. I then point you in the right direction to achieving success by talking about my coaching philosophy and program.

I talk about the STMA (Short term massive action) and I help people to define what it is that they are looking for and then turning it into reality. Before they can really figure that out they need to figure out what is in the gab that’s holding them back.

I talk about who someone needs to be because I think that being-ness is so important verses doing-ness. I go through all of the things of who someone needs to be in order to turn their vision into reality.

In chapter two I get into the exciting stuff which is what is possible. I think that pretty much anything is possible with a few exceptions.
And then in chapter three I start talking about how your vision becomes your reality – how do you sit down and craft the vision? I also talk about what might come in the way of your vision and how to avoid those things.

In chapter four we talk about your goals because once you create a vision you need to have goals. If you have the right goals they get you up early and keep you up late. You are really, really tired but you are also happy because you’re building something that you like. So we talk about how to set these goals so that they are driving you effortlessly.

In chapter five I get into the power of laser focus – how do you turn the actions that you have identified into the action steps that you’re doing every day. Knowing that you need to do something is different from actually doing it.

In chapter six I talk about what your ‘I am’ is. Any words you say after ‘I am’ is a command to your subconscious mind and I want everyone to choose their ‘I am’ statements with intention and purpose.

The title of chapter seven is Who’s on Your Bench which means who is in your environment, who is holding you accountable, who’s pushing you and pulling you. And also who you need to network with so that you can grow your business effortlessly.

In chapter eight I talk about old habits. Old habits eat good intentions for lunch. Trying to have willpower will not be enough and so you have to engineer circumstances in your life and I give some examples on how to do that.

Finally in chapter nine we discuss the planning phase.

And in chapter 10 we figure out how you are going to pull it all together and make it actually happen.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 03:58

Notable Quotes From The Book (11:28)

“Committed eats impossible for breakfast.” – Honoree Corder

“Thinking you can achieve something unleashes the force that allows it to happen.” – Honoree Corder

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:32)

I am a business coach, executive coach, corporate trainer, motivational speaker and 13 time author. I currently live in Austin, TX. I have worked with entrepreneurs, business owners and senior level professionals for about 15 years and helped them achieve their biggest vision and solve their biggest problems. My background is in the corporate world and in network marketing and so I have had to distinct successful separate careers that have both informed and influenced how I work with people today.

I wanted a reference book for myself and for others that isn’t just the tip of the spear but is the sharp point that would give the formula for turning what is in our minds eye into our actual real life reality.
