The Seven Levels of Communication

A summary of things you should know about The Seven Levels of Communication according to Michael Maher:

Introduction

In this episode Michael J Maher takes a deep dive into his book, The Seven Levels of Communication, which is the perfect guide for entrepreneurs who need help becoming an effective communicator and building strong relationships. The purpose of this sales book is to help you quit marketing to strangers and start communicating with friends. As a best-seller for over 4 years, 7L teaches you that giving generously and allowing time to build relationships is the key to establishing a successful business.

The Book’s Unique Quality

The main thing is it’s a sales book based on generosity. This book is truly about attracting and not chasing to get the business. I truly believe that now is the time to quit marketing to strangers and start communicating with friends.

The Best Way To Engage

I think one of the reasons the book has been a bestseller for almost four years is because it’s a book with a ton of depth. The first way to read it is to open it up and read it to see how the story ends. And read it again for the resources.

The Reader’s Takeaway

Give generously and receive appreciatively.

A Deep Dive Into The Book

This book is not about real estate so if you’re looking for a real estate book, my book is not the one for you. If your goal is about building great relationships, having a legacy when you pass away that carries on the philosophy of generosity, Seven Levels is the book for you.

In Seven L. you get to know Rick Masters who is in real estate that has just suffered a really difficult time. Chapter one is called The Lunch of a Lifetime. In this chapter Rick meets with a real estate professional for lunch and you will see there are many referral strategies within this conversation. Michelle (the real estate professional) invites Rick to see a speaker named J. Michaels who is a leader of the generosity generation. Rick attends the event and hears a lot of great strategies about how to lead with generosity instead of getting on the chase cycle and converting it to communicating with friends. Rick has a very expensive decision to make, whether to pursue coaching or not and makes the decision to invest in himself and the generosity generation.

The next seven chapters his coach takes him through the Seven Level system. We get to hear Coach and experience with Rick the difficulties that he has in implementing and the reasons that he is being taught the certain things from his coach. Through these seven chapters of learning we are in a people business, not a numbers game, Rick learns the power of locking off time to build relationships.

My favorite chapter is chapter seven which is on Communication plans. When I netted nearly a million dollars in my third year of real estate, I did not have marketing or business plan, I had a communication plan. Coach takes Rick through the Communication plan in this chapter.

Chapter eight is about electronic communication and social media. We teach that you should never ask for referrals. We have a social media piece that is over the top. We have over 65,000 likes and fans on our Facebook page which is more than most trainers and speakers just because we have a social media plan within our communication plan.

The story hits home in chapters 10, 11 and 12 when J. Michael speaks again. Rick has been transformed and we wrap up with another lunch of a lifetime. You never know which lunch is going to be the lunch of a lifetime. How many lunches would you go on if you knew that the next one you went on could be the lunch of a lifetime?

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author

For many years I made the American dream come true for buyers of homes and helped them create the ultimate client experience. I have a real estate company in Kansas City and coach, train and oversee over 1,500 real estate personalities. In 2004 I was introduced to the world as North Americas most preferred real estate professional and once that happened I started speaking about how to generate referrals. Ten years later and my last audience had over 50 different professions, entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Seven Levels of Communication has been #1 on Amazon for almost four years. And we are re-launching the second edition on September 2nd.

I was introduced as North Americans most preferred Real Estate professional by Howard Brinton and he made me a Star Power Star which in real estate at the time was an ultimate achievement. When he did that my phone rang off the hook, e-mails blew up and everybody was asking me questions of how I got to that point. I decided I need to write a book with the answer instead of giving them a tidbit of information.
