A summary of things you should know about The Self-Made Billionaire Effect according to John Sviokla:

Introduction

In this episode John Sviokla gives an in-depth summary of his and Mitch Cohens’ book, The Self-Made Billionaire Effect, where they discuss how extreme producers create massive value.

In their book Sviokla and Cohen provide extensive research drawn from interviews with some of the most successful billionaires in order to debunk the perceptions people have of high producing entrepreneurs. The goal of the book is to teach you habits designed to improve your business value, how to start thinking like a billionaire, and how to be highly valuable to your employees.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs that set very high expectations when it comes to business goals and are looking for solid ways to provide massive value when it comes to building a business.

The Book’s Unique Quality (2:00)

This book is the first ever systematic study of a self-made billionaire.

The Best Way To Engage (2:47)

It’s really a book you can jump in and jump out of. The introduction of the book tells you that these people are not who you think they are. 80% of them made their money in highly competitive contested markets.

The Reader’s Takeaway (10:11)

The one thing I would say is to follow your curiosity about an opportunity area and don’t separate thinking from doing. If you want to pursue it, pursue it yourself.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (3:51)

The core notion that the book talks about is underneath every billion dollar opportunity what you will see is what we call a Producer or a Producer Performer Pair.

A Producer is the kind of person that knows how to design a business from scratch and to get all those design variables and land them well. That’s true whether these people are doing it in pizza, coffee, or high-tech.

As I mentioned before these people are not who you think, they come from all walks of life. Then we look at what makes these billionaires distinctive and what we found were these Five Habits of Mind.

The Five Habits of Mind are inventive execution, epithetic imagination, a relative view of risk, patient urgency, and producer performer pairing. For example epithetic imagination is a combination of understanding where markets going as well as a rational understanding of what the economic opportunity might be.

Throughout the book I give you a deep definition of each of the Five Habits of Mind and pair them with stories to help the reader get a visual of how each one works.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 03:51

Notable Quotes From The Book (10:55)

“The universe is a fight between habit and novelty and novelty is winning.” Terence McKenna

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:27)

I am a partner in the PwC consulting division and I hit up our Thought Leadership. I have been there for about four years and about a dozen years before that I was a consultant at a company called Diamond. And for a dozen years before that I was a professor at Harvard Business School in the area of technology strategy in innovation.

The inspiration was I was talking to my co-author Mitch Cohen and PwC is really about helping our clients create value and I told Mitch that we should study the people who created the most value on the planet. We took the self-made billionaires and made a book of all the things people could learn from their success.

A summary of things you should know about Vibrational Money Immersion according to Ray Higdon:

Introduction

In this episode Ray Higdon takes a deep dive into his book, Vibrational Money Immersion, where shares a network marketing guide to better help you make a living from home.

In his book Higdon provides a roadmap filled with practical advice, assignments, and principles that are designed to show you how to become the best network marketer in the field of multi-level marketing. The goal of this book is the help you train your brain to craft your own success, master the art of networking, enhance your sales skills, and overcome multiple obstacles that get in the way.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who want to be able to work from home and are interested in multi-level marketing, but want a better understanding of the principles.

The Book’s Unique Quality (3:24)

Some of the different things about my book are that I am not speaking from theory. I’m speaking exactly how I went from dead broke personal foreclosure to earning over a million dollars, becoming the number one income earner, and having over 85% of an entire network marketing company in my team.

The Best Way To Engage (4:35)

Originally this was a weekly audio course with seventeen chapters. My suggestion would be to go through the book once quickly and then look back to see which one of the chapters jumped out at you and go back through those particular chapters in more detail.

The Reader’s Takeaway (8:54)

Stop looking at what you think you know and look at your results. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard someone tell me, oh I’ve heard that before, but they are dead broke. If you do not have the results in your life that you wish you had then this book can help you understand why you are where you are at and how to get to that next level.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (6:11)

This book is all about mindset. It’s based on the original book of Think and Grow Rich but added with original stories on exactly how and why you have the type of results in your life that you do. So if you’ve been wondering why you’ve been working really, really hard but don’t have a whole lot of results to show for it, this book reveals that. This book will tell you exactly, in so many different scenarios, how your thinking is dictating your results.

I dive deep and talk about my divorce, my child abuse as a kid. I talk about how I got into foreclosure and what exactly got me there but also what exactly got me out of it. And so this is a guide to improving your mindset. Yes, it’s targeted for network marketers but I’ve had people in real estate, insurance, and car sales, go through it and tell me that it really helped them out because mindset is the major factor in anything you do.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 06:11

Notable Quotes From The Book (10:30)

“The ability to say woe is me shows the abundance of inactivity.” – Ray Higdon

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:48)

I was in corporate America and I didn’t feel like I was living my highest and best purpose and also spending more time with picture of my kids than the real thing. I would go to work when they were asleep and come home to them already in bed and that just wasn’t the life that I wanted to work toward. And so I went out on my own and started a real estate business that didn’t work out and in 2009 I found myself dead broke. It was then when I reinvented myself and have since built a multimillion a year coaching and training business. I also have a very successful blog and social media presence and because of all this my lifestyle is a lot different.

A lot of entrepreneurs attribute some of their successes from the content that’s contained within Think and Grow Rich. What I did was I took the public domain version of Think and Grow Rich and I kind of translated it not just to today’s world but also for the actual network marketer. I’ve been in network marketing for over five years and there are a lot of people that appreciate that translation of how this actually and directly applies to their profession.

A summary of things you should know about Thoughts Are Things according to Greg S. Reid:

Introduction

In this episode, bestselling author and success leader, Greg Reid takes a deep dive into his book Thoughts Are Things where he and his co-author, Bob Proctor, reveal the true mindsets that determine where a person will be successful.

In their book Reid and Proctor interview professionals to dissect the psychological science of thought and how successful people think differently from others who are unable to reach their potential. The goal of the book is to teach you how to manipulate your thoughts, what kinds of thoughts will make you wealthy, and how thinking is significant to achieve a meaningful life.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who admire the works of Napoleon Hill and are ready to change everything about their lives in order to control their actions when it comes to wealth and success.

The Book’s Unique Quality (3:31)

Thought Are Things is not necessarily the truth and we come right out and say it. The reality is it’s thought backed by massive action that becomes things. If thoughts were things I’d be a pizza because I am starving and thinking about pizza. You got to think it, you got to feel it, but ultimately you got to do it.

The Best Way To Engage (5:36)

You can literally open up any chapter and start fresh.

The Reader’s Takeaway (16:14)

One of the greatest things that people did was to be very careful of the people they surrounded themselves with. And the thoughts that you put into your head are a direct proportion of the people you’re hanging out with. So it’s important to seek counsel and not people’s opinions. It’s important also to have many mentors in our life.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (7:30)

To write the book we sat down with amazing human beings and found out exactly how their thoughts dictated where they are today.

Thoughts backed by massive action become true reality. One of the big takeaways is about the subconscious mind where you have no control of what it is. One thing that kept popping up was fear – fear is one of the biggest driving things that hold us back and most of it is manmade fear. We spend 90% of our time worrying about 10% that really happens. And fear is a great mechanism and it files away emotional pain, regret, and embarrassment and that’s why if we fail at something we are reluctant to try it again. The subconscious mind pulls from that memory to keep us safe and away from experiencing that same outcome. Sometimes we have to trick that subconscious mind and the way that people do that is they put more positive on top of that negative. Sometimes thoughts are important but you also have to take necessary actions and course directions to make your dreams a reality. Successful people seek counsel and failures listen to opinion. And the difference is that opinion is based on ignorance, lack of knowledge and inexperience, and counsel is based on wisdom, knowledge, and mentorship. If we would spend our daily lives only seeking and listening to counsel and ignoring people’s opinions, that’s the day your life would change.

I live in San Diego, California with you wife and my two year old son. I get to write books, make movies, travel the world, and meet some of the most influential people of our time and then tell their stories.

To start with I did Thoughts Are Things with a legendary author named Bob Proctor and this book is the very first one in the Napoleon Hill Think and Grow Rich series. The whole concept is if you ever read Think and Grow Rich, the first three words are Thoughts Are Things. Bob and I decided to take those three words and expand on them and from there we created this gem that people are loving national wide.

Greg Reid is the modern voice for inspiration and motivation. He is a best-selling author, a motivational speaker, and a highly acclaimed filmmaker. He has published over 45 books, despite claiming that he isn’t a writer, including Three Feet From Gold which is inspired by the original landmark seller Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Greg Reid has learned to overcome his weaknesses to find success. Here are five important lessons that any entrepreneur can learn from his life in order to find their own success.

1. Work Your Strengths, Hire Your Weaknesses

Chances are, if you’re starting your own business you’ve already spent a bit of time figuring out what your strengths are. Be brutally honest in this process. It’s not shameful to admit that there are some things that just don’t come easily to you. Focus on the things that do fall under your natural abilities. There’s no reason for you to pay someone else good money to do something that you are perfectly capable of doing yourself.

Likewise, there’s no reason for you to spend a lot of time trying to achieve skills that you can hire out. Hire quality employees whose strengths match up with your weaknesses. People might say that birds of a feather flock together, but we’re looking for more of an opposites attract approach here. Find someone who can fill in the gaps in your skill set. Together, you’ll form an unstoppable team.

2. Don’t Quit

Perseverance is the most important quality in an entrepreneur. In the early days, there will be setbacks. There will probably be setbacks in the later days, too. Some of these might feel like catastrophic failures, but you can recover from anything that life hits you with. It’s okay to take a step back to get yourself together after an unexpected blow, but then get right back into the game.

You never know how close you are to success until you get there. Holding on just one more month, week, or even day could be the difference between closing your doors and finding the answer to your biggest problem. A new investor could be right around the corner. Hold out for him to get there.

3. Be Committed

Most people will tell you to go into a business in a field that interests you. But the fact is, being interested isn’t enough. You have to be committed. Most people have a variety of interests. Those are your hobbies. Those are the things that you do when you find yourself with some free time. That’s what you do when you’re in the mood and it sounds found. But a business isn’t a hobby, it’s a commitment. You make time for your business, which means some things are going to have to take a backseat. You take care of your business no matter what mood you’re in, even when it’s anything but fun.

Interest is what gets you to the office the first couple weeks when everything is new and exciting. Commitment is what gets you to the office an hour early to go over the books even though your kids kept you up all night. Don’t just be interested. Be committed.

4. Seek Wise Counsel

Everybody has an opinion. And most of those people will let you know that opinion, whether you asked for it or not. It’s certainly good to take advice wherever you can find it, but consider the source. Don’t let your family talk you out of your dream because they’re concerned about what it will do to you if your business doesn’t make it. Nod, smile politely, and don’t pay any attention to the know it all who’s convinced that he hold the answers to all of the universe’s questions. To run a successful business, you don’t need the opinion of everyone who walks through your door. You need sound advice from people who know what they’re talking about.

Successful people seek out counsel from experts in their field. Spend a lot of time networking. Talk to people who own businesses in the same area as you. Talk to people who own the same type of business on the other side of the world. Pick their brains for what worked and what didn’t work. As important as it is for your business to stand out, don’t feel like you need to reinvent the wheel just to be different. Listen to those who have experience in your field.

5. Turn Your Obstacles into Opportunities

No obstacle has the power to stop you. It might delay you, will certainly force you to reevaluate and perhaps change your approach, but an obstacle is not the end of the road. Keep this in mind whenever you hit a stumbling block and you will blast right through whatever is in your path. Instead of stopping at an obstacle, take this opportunity to strengthen your resolve. Remember to be committed. An obstacle is the perfect opportunity to test that committed. The interested walk away from an obstacle. The committed charge right at it.

An obstacle is also an opportunity to try new things. Maybe you’ve had a crazy idea floating around in the back of your head that you never would have tried with smooth sailing. But since you have to change your course anyways, you might as well give it a shot, right? Some of your best ideas may be inspired by spur of the moment desperation. Embrace the opportunities that obstacles present and you will find yourself on the path to success.

A summary of things you should know about The Millionaire Fastlane according to MJ DeMarco:

Introduction

In this episode MJ DeMarco reveals all his insights on his book, The Millionaire Fastlane, where he cracks the code to becoming wealthy and living the rich life.

In his book DeMarco provides you with an expressway to extraordinary wealth that will get you to financial freedom faster than any other guide out there. The goal of his book is to teach you why most entrepreneurs fail, the leading cause of being poor, why typical jobs will never make you rich, how the rich really get rich, and why the guru myth of “do what you love” will most likely keep you poor, not rich.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who are ready to leave the job market to pursue self-employment in order to gain financial freedom, be their own boss, and ultimately become very rich.

The Book’s Unique Quality (7:36)

I think a lot of authors focus on one particular concept and that concept may be valid for 6 months or a couple of years and they’ll talk about this one concept the entire book. My book contains the entire roadmap. I’m not going to write a book unless I feel it can change somebodies life.

The Best Way To Engage (9:55)

I am trying to paint a whole picture to where when someone puts it down they actually feel something has changed and they feel their odds of succeeding in entrepreneurship have doubled, tripled or quadrupled.

The Reader’s Takeaway (17:50)

Be value driven to the masses. The phrase I use in my book is if you want to make millions you need to start impacting millions and do it with value.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (10:40)

The book is sliced into three different phases and those three phases are what I call the road maps to wealth, the sidewalk roadmap, the slow lane roadmap, and the fast lane roadmap. The front half of the book covers the sidewalk and the slow lane and these two roadmaps are more about what you shouldn’t be doing verses what you should be doing. This half covers why these strategies don’t work and it goes in depth with the mathematics behind it. I would say that 80% of the country falls into the mindset of the sidewalk roadmap which is a paycheck to paycheck mindset. It’s a consumer mindset where everything you earn goes to buying something and you don’t really save money. The interesting thing about the sidewalk roadmap is it doesn’t matter what you make and the common denominator there is what you earn is what you spend.

The slow lane mindset is what I call a frugal mindset. And this mindset is all about saving and trusting that the stock market will someday make you rich. In the end you’re trading time and pieces of your life in hopes to be free later.

The back half of the book goes into the leverage entrepreneurship aspect. Leverage entrepreneurship is best handled when it covers five main commandments which are your need, entry, control, scale, and time. It is the ability to get into a business that is product centered.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 10:40

Notable Quotes From The Book (19:18)

“As a fastlaner you carry a producer mindset and the majority of people on the sidewalk carry a consumer mindset.” – MJ DeMarco

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (1:30)

I started an internet company way back in the late 90’s. I founded it with about 900 bucks, no internet training, no computer science degree and I was able to sell it a couple years later during the internet boom. The company that bought the company folded and I was able to get it back at a fire sale price. I helped the company for another 6 to 7 years until I sold it again in 2007. During this time that I owned the company I was able to cash flow it six figures monthly profit and sold it to a multimillion dollar valuation. After selling the business in 2007 I went on a little semi-retirement hiatus and one of my goals was to write a book about all the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship which was The Millionaire Fastlane.

I was leading a fantastic life of abundant wealth and when I reflected upon that it was all due to entrepreneurship and The Millionaire Fastlane is how to bring about that type of scenario.

We all know those successful people in our lives. Our bosses, our friends, or even clients who come in, they are all successful and you may wonder how they do it. You know they must be hard working, determined and goal oriented to have made it to where they are today. These are all traits that we can admire and look up, and hopefully take a lesson from. There are a lot of bad habits that get us off on the wrong track and away from success, but successful people know what bad habits to avoid and deter from so they stay on the path to success!

In order to be very successful here is a look at some bad habits that successful people avoid:

1. Waiting for opportunity

One of the worst habits that people have is waiting for success to land in your lap or looking for quick and easy schemes that never really work. Successful people know that you have to work hard for what you get, and you have to work even harder when you have a goal in mind. Waiting for opportunity to arise causes you to often lose sight of the end goal, and can often leave you questioning your choices when other opportunities have passed you by while you waited for one to land in your lap. Don’t sit around and wait, get up and go get it!

2. Letting other people get in the way

Not setting priorities or setting yours below someone else’s is one of the worst habits that successful people will avoid. They don’t let someone else’s set priorities interfere with their own. Successful people know what matters to them (promotions, projects, financial plans, goals) and they know that by letting other people’s priorities (be it values, promotions, etc.) get in their way, they are setting themselves up to fail. Of course, they know that giving a help hand isn’t a bad thing, but they don’t let anyone else’s pace slow them down!

3. Reluctant to change

One of the biggest downfalls of success that prosperous people avoid is resistance to change. The way the world grows and the technology in it and the process by which people get things done, it is always changing. Those who resist that change are often doomed to failure or to falling behind. Successful people know that change is a good thing and the growth potential that comes with it is huge! By allowing change to happen, grasping it and moving forward with it, you are advancing yourself and your goals.

4. Afraid to speak up

Successful people are those who are not powerless. They are strong-willed, willing to stand for what is right, and aren’t afraid to speak up with their opinions. By letting others dictate the way things go, you are not being successful. However, by giving good input, dictating the way you want things to go, and giving and articulate strong point of view, you are showing others a new way of seeing or doing something, and that is huge potential for your success.

5. Thinking negatively

Those who are successful are not pessimists who see the worst in the world. They take the world (and the people, places, and situations in it), see it for what it is, and set out on a path to make it better. They find the good in situations and if there is none, they create it. They push forward in tough times, showing that there is strength in leadership. A good outlook and a strong sense of willpower and well-being will set you on the right path to success and often will make others follow.

6. Being jealous

Being jealous of others successes will only hold you back in the long run. Being jealous often leads to endless self-doubt, questioning many decisions, and often making you stray from the successful path. Successful people are happy that others are succeeding and will praise them. They will listen to others successes in hopes that they can learn something new that will further their own achievements and get them closer to their goals. Being glad for someone else’s achievements eases the mind and heart, giving you an overall feeling of well-being, which will boost your internal go getter side!

7. Creating gossip

Those who are on the path to success do not talk down about others or gossip. Not only does gossiping lead to lies, mistruths, and twisted versions of things that have happened, but it makes you look less successful. To stand on the rumors of someone else makes you appear to be climbing the backs of those around you just so you get to the top. Successful people don’t gossip, they praise the works of others and give good impressions of others characters.

8. No planning or goal setting

Those who are successful have goals in mind. They know what they want and have made a plan to get there (and maybe have even made a few back up plans in case something doesn’t work out with their initial plan). They realize that there are no wrong turns, just more opportunities to learn something new, to see things in a different light, and to push yourself to get to that goal when things do get tough. Those who want it, will get it!

9. Being cocky

One of the best qualities about a successful person is their humility. They don’t tout their successes from the rooftops or make others feel beneath them because they haven’t reached the same success. Those with humility will appreciate the gratitude, but will also share in the success. Those who have succeeded will rejoice with others and thank them for their help in assisting the successful person of making their goals happen. It always takes more than one person to reach your goals, no matter how independent you are.

10. Calling it quits

When success has been reached, successful people don’t just stop trying. They don’t say, I have made it and have nothing more to do! No, they take the day for what it is, and then wake up anew with a fresh goal in mind. They don’t stop, they don’t pass by new opportunities. They know the keys to success and how to reach those steps and goals. With a path and goal in mind, and a determination in your heart and mind, you can be as successful as you want to be!

A summary of things you should know about Make Money, Live Wealthy according to Austin Netzley

Introduction

In this episode Austin Netzley shares his book, Make Money Live Wealthy, where he shows you how to invest, be an entrepreneur, and build massive wealth.

In his book, Netzley reveals the wealth secrets of 75 successful entrepreneurs that outline a path to true wealth in 10 simple steps. The goal of this book is to teach you how to step up your game in money, how to reprogram your mind, the common traits of the wealthy, and the key mistakes that are holding you back.

This book is perfect for entrepreneurs who have a passion for money, investing, and business in order to live a rich life filled with happiness, joy, and inner peace.

The Book’s Unique Quality (2:26)

I talk about true wealth and what true wealth is more than money. Money is a tool to help give you a life that you want to live and I didn’t learn this until I was 24 years old. The point of the book is to teach people what true wealth is and how to obtain it. What makes it different is that I use quotes from 75 interviews to drive the conversation. It’s a little bit unique and hopefully very, very actionable for people.

The Best Way To Engage (3:26)

It’s a progression so start from the beginning and work your way through.

The Reader’s Takeaway (10:39)

It’s all about the mindset. It’s at the heart of everything and unfortunately we are not taught about that in school. The wealthy think differently.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (3:13)

It’s the 10 simple steps to true wealth and what I did was take the lessons of 75 successful entrepreneurs. I started to realize that each entrepreneur had the same common steps and decisions.

The first step I talk about is to take control. You have to take control of your past and your future. Everybody wants to become rich but until you make the decision in your mind and commit to that then you don’t start to see the opportunities that are in front of you. Once you make that decision you are on your way.

From there you move in to the second step which is developing the right mindset. You need to reflect and understand what is holding you back and then reverse that and start to think like the rich. The rich think differently and by doing that they have different results. Our thoughts lead to our feelings which lead to our actions which lead to our results.

The third element is creating the right environment. When I am talking about the environment it’s not only the information that’s going in your head but it’s your network. If you want to be your best self in any area of your life you need coaches to guide and direct you along the way.

The fourth element is building the financial foundation. It’s a matter of getting your priorities in line and as soon as you do that you start to build momentum.

Element number five is gaining clarity. You have to have a clear vision of where you are going and why. You need to understand what that lifestyle is that you really want and then you can create something that helps you ultimately live that lifestyle.

The sixth step is to craft your dream career and this is where you look at pursuing a passion which you often have to start with skills. We talk about finding the perfect career and different vehicles to get you there.

Chapter seven is about making money and the equations of wealth. We talk about financial freedom, different sources of income and money secrets of the rich.

Chapter eight is the entrepreneurial success chapter. In this chapter I talk about why everybody should consider entrepreneurship. The best way to build massive wealth is to be an entrepreneur.

Chapter nine is how I built my wealth through investing.

The last chapter is about the time and journey. Wealth is not necessarily a destination but more of a state of mind. It’s all about getting over fear and enjoying that process of continuing towards wealth.

Notable Quotes From The Book (11:45)

“Wealth is a choice.” – David Wood

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Author (0:39)

I grew up in the Midwest and had visions of becoming a CEO for a large company. I got my engineering degree and went down that path, worked in corporate America and started to read books. I learned what was possible and learned that there were other options than that which lead me to invest. Over the next couple of years I created my own algorithm and automated it and started to scale that up while working in an oil company. At the end of last year retired and now I travel around and share my passion of money and the mindset and investing with other people to help get them to where they want to go.

The big inspiration was that books changed my life. As soon as I started to read a lot I knew that someday I wanted to write a book. Since I was traveling around the world and had my own podcast I figured it was a perfect opportunity to do so and I am so excited that I did.

A summary of things you should know about What’s Next? according to Michael Price:

Introduction

In this episode Michael Price takes a deep dive into his book, What’s Next, where he gives you a guide for surviving and thriving in the real world.

In his book, Price teaches you how to decide if college is right for you, how to escape Corporate America and pursue your passion, and how to use the Internet for continuing education, networking, building a business, and turning your passion into profit.

This book is perfect for aspiring entrepreneurs between the ages of 15 and 33 who are seeking an all-inclusive guide to finding the right education and entrance into the world today.

The Book’s Unique Quality (4:40)

The book is tailor-made for millennials and a more comprehensive book. In addition to entrepreneurship it touches on a lot of other topics like education and employment. This has personally worked for me and I see it becoming a trend working for a lot of others.

The Best Way To Engage (6:00)

It depends on the age level and the station of life the reader is in. The reader can jump in and pick up from where they are in their life in that particular point of time. The age group of a millennial is between the ages of 15 to 33.

The Reader’s Takeaway (19:46)

I would want the reader to really understand the impact of the world that we live in today and most importantly the world that we are going to live in tomorrow.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (7:51)

The book opens up in chapter one titled Welcome to the Real World. I believe that millennials are extremely unprepared for the real world and I think it’s largely consequence of the way we were raised and the society we were brought up in. You can have all the opportunity in the world but if you don’t have a large sector of people that are willing to embrace that opportunity and know what to do with it, you have a big issue. We have the most highly educated generation in history but at the same time they are also the most unemployed generation in history. A lot of these issues are covered in the book and help break down the history of that.

Chapter two explores the notion of the internet age, social networking, real world networking and how to build business. This chapter helps people understand this phenomenon that we are seeing.

Chapters three and four discuss education. These chapters help the reader really understand what education is and what it’s not. These days there are so many different ways to educate yourself in terms of learning whatever it is necessary to get you to the next point in your life. The reader will get a lot of insight into that and alternative solutions should they not be able to or desire to go the traditional route of education.

In Chapter five we get involved in the brand building component of business and entrepreneurship. This book takes the reader down this path to entrepreneurship but it focuses very heavily making sure that they survive and thrive in their career as an employee. I believe that employment is the new training ground for entrepreneurship.

Chapter six is titled Surviving Corporate America and has 15 of the best pieces of advice that I could provide working in the corporate environment at a very high level for several years.

And chapter seven is titled Escaping Corporate America. This chapter helps give real insight to what you can expect when you take the plunge to quit your job and to go all-in as an entrepreneur.

In chapter eight we discuss some basic financial literacy skills which sadly aren’t taught in schools but its key for success in the real world.
The book closes out in chapter nine by providing a message to parents who have already raised a millennial or are currently raising a millennial.

NOTE: That was just a summary. To get the full deep dive, play the audio clip at 07:51

Notable Quotes From The Book (21:38)

Have you ever wondered why some people are so successful when millions out there are breaking their backs to make ends meet? Of course they are not doing anything out of this world nor have they been blessed by the gods. This is one question that many wantrepreneurs and aspiring business people have been asking for years and thankfully, we have Napoleon Hill’s works among us providing the answer.

Who is Napoleon Hill? Well, he is considered by many as one of the most popular motivational authors of all time. Of course, he did not find the “holy grail” of business success and marketing but he did produce some of the most amazing books on business success that have inspired millions of people around the world.

Born in October 26, 1883, Napoleon Hill is considered as one of the proponents of the new thought movement and probably he is the precursor of the literary genre which is today known as personal success literature. Known and celebrated as one of the most successful writers on success, he has authored the bestselling book of all time – ‘Think and Grow Rich’. Amazing as it might sound, 20 million copies of this book were sold throughout the world before his death. He delved deep into the psychology of successful people and tried to figure out their mental prowess that leads to their immense success in the world of business. Even at some point of his life, he became an advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and this shows how influential he was in his days. Throughout his life, he tried to find the elusive formula that he strongly believed can transcend a normal or regular guy into a person with success.

If you have ever heard these beautiful and powerful words like – “Anything the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve”, you have got an idea of his authority on this particular literary genre. He had interviewed successful people from different walks of life and reached the conclusion that there are certain characteristics that have made these people so successful in their lives. He went on further to say that if common people like you and I can emulate the characteristics of these wealthy persons the chances of successful in life will increase manifolds.

In his book ‘Think and Grow Rich’, he laid out 13 easy to follow rules that he wants us to believe have the secret sauce of success. Okay, we are not saying that whoever read this book is going to be the next billionaire. Well sadly, the world not such a beautiful place. Rather this book contains some practical advice on how to make money, be a greater leader and to be uber successful.

The book has an interesting history. Andrew Carnegie was the person who encouraged Napoleon Hill to start his quest for the secret formula of success. Andrew Carnegie a business tycoon in his days steadfastly believed that success could be defined via a single and simple formula. During an interview of him taken by Napoleon Hill, he got so much impressed that he assigned the job to Napoleon. He asked him to take interview of 500 (+) men and women to find the secret of success. Some of the famous people that Napoleon Hill interviewed are – John Wanamaker, Theodore Roosevelt, Charles M. Schwab, Henry Ford, Alexander Graham Bell and more. The result is his magnus opus – ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Are you interested in learning even more about the lessons and fool-proof advice from one of the greatest business men and authors of all time?

Check out his amazing book and an interview I had with the director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, Don Green:

A summary of things you should know about Think and Grow Rich according to Don Green

Introduction

In this episode Don Green, director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, shares his exclusive insights into Think and Grow Rich, the original landmark bestseller for all business people. This book is a must have and is perfect for entrepreneurs, business executives, and owners who are searching for the secrets on how to become rich. Green unveils the inspiration behind Napoleon Hill’s motives and gives you a complete deep dive into the main concepts for real business success.

The Book’s Unique Quality

He was the first to write about this and I know a lot of authors who write about the same thing but practically everyone you look at has the bases of Napoleon Hill.

The Best Way To Engage

Napoleons books are the type that you plan and work as you read through it.

The Reader’s Takeaway

Napoleon would want us to learn how to think and that’s what the whole book is about. For every situation that comes up, to use our imagination, make plans and persist. So many people think that getting an education is about memorizing a bunch of material but if you went to school long enough to just learn how to think then you can get the information that you’re seeking. Our motto is to make the world a better place for each to live.

A Deep Dive Into The Book

The book starts out with Thought or Things and that simply means that everything begins in our thought process, it’s a thought before it’s a thing. You can have a thought that never materializes because we never really think about it.

The second chapter is on desire and desire is basically what you want out of life. Napoleon tells us that at the starting point of all achievement are definiteness of purpose and I think that is lacking in most people.

The third chapter is on faith and to me it’s very interesting because Napoleon talks about visualization and a lot of this material he uses would come back from the bible.

In chapter four Napoleon talks about Auto-suggestion, what we say to ourselves is extremely important because it stirs our subconscious mind. We don’t want to tell people that we are broke or use this negative self-explanation because it’s real easy for it to come apart of us.

Chapter five is on Specialized Knowledge and is extremely important because to really achieve goodness, you have to stand out in a particular area. Specialized knowledge is what big money is paid for and what brings recognition.

Chapter six is Imagination – The Workshop of The Mind. In this chapter Napoleon tells us how to use imagination and what can become of it.

Chapter seven is about Organize Planning in which Napoleon says it is putting your desire into action. You have to plan and then execute the plan but it doesn’t always mean the plan goes exactly like you intended. This chapter will show you exactly how to do just that.

The fourteenth chapter is called The Sixth Sense – The Door to the Temple of Wisdom. It’s important that we recognize that we don’t have to have all the answers because nobody does and it’s possible to get them from other sources with having an open mind.

The fifteenth chapter of Think and Grow Rich is called How to Outwit the Six Ghost of Fear. Napoleon says that the biggest of all six fears is the fear of poverty and most end up with this fear because of their thought process.

Notable Quotes From The Book

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” by Napoleon Hill

The Credibility/Inspiration Of The Guest

I come from banking and finance background of 38 years and I was a bank president for 28. While I was president of the bank I contacted Napoleon Hill Foundation when they invited me to come up and have dinner with them. It was then that I was invited to be a board member of the foundation. Around the year of 2000 the previous executive director asked me to take over and it’s worked out just wonderful ever since.

Napoleon was in law school at Georgetown University when he had the big idea of writing to cover expenses for him and his brother. It was then that he got a job with Bob Taylor magazine and Napoleon covered multiple newsworthy stories. He was challenge by Andrew Carnegie to go interview successful men and women to find out why some people were successful. This is what he spent the best portion of his life doing and didn’t just write about them but answered the questions that everyone wanted answers to.
